Camassia - the Quamash or Camas

The camassias are a genus of six bulbous perennials from North America with racemes of generally blue, six-petalled flowers. As with much of the liliaceae there has been a great debate as to the members. Camassia is one of the genera that are now considered to be part of the Agave family, Agavaceae.

Camassia leichtlinii alba - detail of flowersWe are old fashioned at the plantsman so Camassia will remain a lily until such time as we see fit to overhaul our records. So, whatever your thoughts, lily or agave, enjoy the plants.
