Sanguinaria canadensis - Bloodroot
This spring-flowering perennial is a delight coming out of a long winter. The white flowers emerge before the leaves but unfortunately last only a few days before pollination causes the petals to fall in the slightest breath of wind.
The short-lived flowers are soon replaced by the strongly lobed leaves which, to me, are just as attractive.
Cultivation
Bloodroot is not terribly fussy about soils or light but if in full sun do ensure that it has sufficient moisture.
